The Niagarafied Weekend – #5

This weekend’s focus is a subject that is dear to my heart.

You guessed it, WINE.

I know, I know, I write about wine tastings, tours, and events quite a bit. But in doing my research for this weekend, most of the happenings were wine related.

So, grab a glass, and let’s get sipping.

Did you get to the Niagara Food & Wine Expo last weekend? Well, if not, you have another chance to get a Food & Wine Fest fix. You have to drive a bit further from Niagara for this one though. It’s in Hamilton  – The Food & Drink Fest. I’ve heard so much good stuff about the food scene in Hamilton, so this might be a great way to get an overview, and get some good things to sample in the bargain. It’s happening all weekend, and all the details are here.

This weekend is also The White Sale at Reif Estate Winery. Lucky us, it looks like Reif has some great deals for our white wine stock-up. According to their Twitter page, sale prices will range from $8.95 – $14.95. Can you believe that? Those are some pretty fantastic prices. It looks like patio weather is pretty much upon us, so the timing couldn’t be better.

Combining your yoga practice with some wine tasting is becoming very popular in these here parts. I did a class last year, and loved it, so I really wish I was going to be able to attend this one. Sharlene Styles is offering a complimentary yoga class at Henry of Pelham, on Saturday April 23rd at 10 am. Afterward, there will be some sparkling wine on offer. Just imagine that blissful post-yoga calm, coupled with a great glass of wine. Keep in mind that though this particular class is free, the glass of sparkling will cost you $5. A great way to kick off your weekend! You can register for it here.

Sharlene’s been doing a lot of interesting events at some of our wineries lately. I certainly hope I can get to her next one!

Also on Saturday, April 23rd, at 11:30 am, Niagara College Teaching Winery is offering a seminar called Rosé: Methods of Production. You will learn about the different methods of making this delicious style of wine, and taste their 2014 Rosé with some food samples from Benchmark Restaurant.

I’m so glad it’s Rosé season at last, aren’t you?

You can purchase tickets here.

It’s your last chance to Get Fresh in the Valley, and enjoy some delicious wine and food pairings at the wineries of Twenty Valley. The focus for this event is all about celebrating the flavours of Spring. What better way to do that than with food, wine, and gorgeous Twenty Valley scenery?

You can read my take on last year’s event here.

And ticket details are here.

There seem to be quite a few Winemaker’s Dinners happening at this time of year. I just attended one at Konzelmann, and it was a fabulous night. There are two more happening this weekend that I know of. I’m not certain if any tickets are still available. But you should give them a call if interested, because – hey, you never know.

This Saturday, April 23rd, Treadwell’s is hosting a special Library Wine Dinner featuring Stratus Vineyards. Oh be still my heart. Dinner at Treadwell’s and back vintages from Stratus? It’s a dream come true. This dinner also has a focus on the soon-to-be 10th Anniversary of Treadwell’s operation, so they will be offering a selection of dishes from the first-ever menu that they served. I know their special dinners do sell out very quickly, but like I said, give them a call – you never know. Also, keep checking their website for these special events as they pop up. They’re incredible, and totally worth the splurge.

Details are here.

Strewn Winery and OLiV Tasting Room & Restaurant are also having a Winemaker’s Dinner this Saturday, April 23rd. The menu looks really good, you can take a look at it here. Once again, I’m not sure if any tickets are left, but give them a call and see. If they are full for the evening, you can always go on Sunday for their Classic Brunch with a Twist. There are some pretty tasty sounding things on that Brunch Menu, I tell you.

So, wine lovers, you’ve got quite a few options for some outings this weekend, right? And of course, there’s always my favourite of just popping into a winery or two and seeing what’s new.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
