For some reason, I never feel like it is “the new year” until we are into the first week of January. That lazy, indulgent holiday feeling is sooooo hard to let go of. In addition, Ken and I came down with The Virus to End All Viruses in early December, so extra time to unwind and avoid reality has been much appreciated.
My holidays this year were very quiet, and it was marvelous. I am not a “Christmas person” to begin with, and over the last few years have really scaled back the overscheduling, the stress, and yes, the overconsumption. The holidays for me are now all about sleeping in, reading a ton of books, having delicious meals, and relaxed visiting with friends and family. It was two weeks of heaven on earth.
And now back to reality.
The start of 2015 marks the one year anniversary of my exodus from Toronto to lovely Niagara-on-the-Lake. What a year it has been! It has been full of change and new experiences, many of which I am still mulling and pondering over. As soon as I can put them adequately into words, you may find some of them on my Thoughts page.
I have added a couple more categories to the blog, one is the aforesaid Thoughts page, and also there is now a Fitness page. You probably don’t know that I worked as a personal trainer for many years in Toronto. Even had my own training studio, which closed in 2012. Over the last couple of years, due to life stresses/changes/health issues my own training has really suffered. I have a significant birthday coming up in August – turning 45, yikes! – and one of my goals for this year is to really get my fitness back. I hope you will join me in my fitness journey.
If fitness is not your thing, pour yourself a glass of wine and join me in the Wine section. I have split up Food and Wine into two separate categories, as I feel they each deserve their own. Another goal for this year is to blog about EVERY winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Tough job, isn’t it? You are so lucky that I have kindly volunteered to do this for you. Just know that I am not a wine snob. I love wine, but am not gifted in the language of fancy-pants wine description. I will try to direct you to great wine at a reasonable price. With the odd splurge here and there.
The Food section will have some recipes from Highbrook and discussion of my ventures out to restaurants and food events in Niagara. Maybe some healthy recipes too, helping us along with new year fitness goals, and some splurge-worthy weekend treats.
There will be much more blogging this year. I plan to be more active on Twitter and Instagram, so would love it if you would follow me there as well. I am utterly addicted to Pinterest too. So many ways for us to connect and spread the word about this wonderful life in Niagara.
I’m looking forward to 2015, how about you?
